The history of Cooper Creek United Methodist Church dates back to 1878 when worship was held in the Cooper Creek schoolhouse. The first schoolhouse was located across the creek from the site of the W.J. Pilgrim home. It was organized by Rev. Lovejoy and Rev. James Farris, Rev. Lovejoy being the first pastor. The Church alternated Sundays with the Baptist Church until Cooper Creek Baptist Church was built in 1916.
The property where the Church currently stands was purchased in 1901 by Taylor Landham and Dunk Harris. In 1946-1947, the Church was built. The pastor was Walter B. Sullens, and original trustees were Tom Laney, W.J. Pilgrim, and R.R. Knox. The Church was dedicated on April 27th, 1947. Some of the early pastors were Rev. Clifton, Rev. Shuffler, Rev. Fincher, and Rev. Webb.
